The clip depicts the takeoff and flyby of Santos-Dumont's Demoiselle, a light monoplane. The name Demoiselle was applied to two different models produced by Santos-Dumont. I believe the model shown in the clip is the No. 20, which was commercially produced, and sold in England for £300, or in France for 5,000 francs. The lightweight Demoiselle was popular with the public, though few pilots were enthusiastic about its flying qualities. |
