Octave Chanute to Wilbur Wright

Chicago, December 12, 1905

I enclose a translation of a letter received last night from Captain Ferber.1 Please advise me promptly what sort of an answer you would suggest for me to make.

Advise me also as to the status of your negotiations with the British.

My confidential letter to Wenham2 should have reached him about Dec. 4th and he may talk to the authorities when he sees the account of French negotiations in the papers.

1 Ferber to Chanute, Nov. 15, 1905,

2 Chanute to Wenham Nov. 24, 1905, summarizing the Wrights' experiments of 1904 1905 and hinting that sale of a machine to the British or the French government was a possibility. Chanute closed, saying: "I hope all this will enable you to exult to yourself without telling anybody."
