Webmaster's Note:
The initial idea behind this index was to refer readers to the paragraph
in the original text where the material was referenced. After spending several
days on this task, and making it only about a third of the way through the first
page of the index, I decided to work on a more expeditious solution to the index.
For the moment, I have identified each page in the text, and most of the links only
map to a specific page. If I have time later, I will create more precise links to
the text material. Of course, even the new solution isn't finished.
On occasion, a discussion of a topic on one page spanned two "sections" of the
book. For these references, I have listed a page number twice.
Chanute often referenced a continuous discussion with separate page marks. In
discussion Lilienthal, for example, Chanute might put 58, 59, 60. As there is no
distinct division between pages in hypertext, I have "condensed" these references
to 58-60, indicating a longer discussion. As always, corrections are welcome.
