Octave Chanute to Wilbur Wright

Washington, May 10, 1905

While in Washington I have met Mr. Berliner1 of telephone and megaphone fame. He tells me that the only way to get a patent promptly in Germany is to have it understood that some important German house is interested in the invention. Otherwise every device is employed to obstruct the foreigner. Mr. B. has had considerable experience in this matter.

1 Emile Berliner, perhaps better known for his early work on helicopters.
